전주국제사진제가 이제 10회를 맞이합니다.
2008년 제1회, 몇 분의 기획자와 지역 관계자분들의 도움으로 시작한 전주국제사진제는 지속적인 발전을 거듭하면서 본래명칭인 “전주포토페스티벌”을 국제적 행사에 걸맞는 “전주국제사진제”로의 개명을 통해 자리를 잡았습니다. 첫 번째 개최당시의 많은 사진인들과 지역예술인들의 우려와 기대감을 동시에 받아들이며 차분히 소통하고 교감하는 시간을 지나온 이후, 국내의 사진축제중에서는 나름 지역의 문화적 정체성을 가장 잘 느낄 수 있고, 사진예술과 지역문화가 친근감 있게 소통되고 융화되는 사진예술축제로 자리매김 하였습니다. 항상 저 예산의 쉽지 않은 민간 예술 사업이지만 위기마다 주최 측인 현대사진미디어연구소 회원들과 위원분들의 헌신적인 노력과 물리적 지원은 현재의 “전주국제사진제”가 10회에 다다를 수 있도록 그 에너지의 원천으로 작용하였습니다. 이제 한 자리 숫자를 지나 두 자리의 “10회 전주국제사진제”는 기존의 방식에서 벗어난 또 다른 도전을 준비하고 있습니다. 사진의 본질을 벗어나지 않는 한도 내에서 새로이 전반적인 시각예술을 포함하고 청년작가들과 교감하며, 해외 페스티벌과의 교류와 지역의 전통적 로컬문화지역과의 콜라보레이션등으로 국내외 사진인과 동호인 지역예술가와 신진작가등의 원활한 교류로 더욱 풍성하고 즐거운 행사로 자리 잡을 예정입니다. 10회를 맞이하는 동안 우리의 사진행사에 기여해 주신 여러 분의 전시감독들을 포함하여 현대사진미디어연구소 회원, 집행위원, 그리고 새롭게 전주국제사진제와 함께 콜라보를 이룰 서학동예술마을, 지역기관과 다양한 장르의 예술단체와 도움주신 실무자 및 도,시의원 여러분들과 제10회 전주국제사진제 디렉터를 맡아준 피터-가필드 교수에게 진심으로 고마움의 마음을 전합니다. 집행위원들은 전주국제사진제가 지역민들에게 우리문화의 자부심을 느끼고 세계와 소통하는 문화예술의 플렛 홈을 이룰 수 있도록 더욱 더 노력하고 준비할 것임을 약속드립니다.

Jeonju International Photo Festival marks the 10th this year.
The first festival was started in 2008 with huge help from a few planners and local officials. The name of festival was ‘Jeonju Photo Festival’ at the beginning, but as the festival develops gradually, it was renamed ‘Jeonju International Photo Festival’ and now it has settled down. There were many worries and expextations from photographers and local artists at the first festival, but we accepted those worries and expectations and tried to communicate and sympathize. Therefore this festival has been positioned as the photographic art festival that can feel local’s cultural identity and photography and local culture is communicated and harmonized friendly. This festival is a civil art business with low budget and has encountered many problems, but devoted effort and physical support from the members and the committee members of Institute of Modern Photography & Media made the festival become the 10th. The 10th Jeonju International Photo Festival is preparing for another challenge. We are trying to make the festival more abundant and pleasant by including overall visual art within the nature of photography, sympathizing with young artists, exchanging with overseas festivals, collaborating with local and, so on. I wish to thank exhibition directors, the members of Institute of Modern Photography & Media, the members of the executive committee, Seohakdong art village, local community organizations, art organizations, officials include the members of a prefectural and municipal assembly, and professor Peter Garfield the director of the 10th Jeonju International Photo Festival. The members of the executive committee promise to prepare and do our best to make the festival the platform of cultural art to local people which can feel the pride of our culture and communicate with the world.
