사진을 모태로 한 이미지 중심의 축제로 2008년부터 자리매김 해왔던 전주포토페스티벌은 2013년에 접어들어 6회를 맞이하게 되었습니다.

현대인들이 가지고 있는 문화예술에 대한 관심과 호기심은, 이제 지난날의 소수의 대상이 아닌 축제의 주체이자 기반이 되었습니다. 수많은 대중들의 관심은 능동적으로 살아 숨 쉬는 ‘참여의 장’ 으로서의 변화되고 있습니다. 그리하여 전주포토페스티벌은 소통과 융합의 고리를 더욱 단단하게 엮어나가는 사진 중심의 축제로 계속되어 왔다고 자부합니다. 특히 주목할 만한 것은 올해가 바로 정전 60돌을 맞이하는 해입니다.

수많은 목숨을 앗아갔던 세계 속의 전쟁은 모두 정리된 듯하나, 지금에 와서도 국가 간, 종교 및 민족 간의 분쟁 등 현 시점 여전히 보이지 않는 곳에서의 전쟁의 그림자에 대해 우리는 고민해보지 않을 수 없습니다. 한국전 이후 전쟁에 대한 실체적 기억이 전무하거나 희미한 우리 세대에게 바로 이전세대의 두려움과 공포를 사진으로 말하고, 우리 세대의 의무와 책임, 분단의 현실에 대해 목소리를 내고자 하였으며 그에 관련한 작업과 작가들을 통해 인류의 슬픔이 문화적 가능성을 위한 또 하나의 방안으로 구성 하였습니다. 고통과 희망을 기록하고 작업으로 승화시키고 있는 국내 외 많은 작가들의 적극적인 참여로 이번 포토페스티벌이 또 하나의 역사적 기록으로서 각인되기를 바랍니다. 또한 지금까지 페스티벌 중에서도 가장 풍성하고 유익한 프로그램과 매뉴얼 의 운용으로 많은 볼거리와 체험, 특히 대중들을 배려하는 사진예술문화로 준비하였습니다. 전 세계의 사진가들과 아티스트들이 이곳 전주에서 모두 함께 뜨거운 기운을 발산하는 “거대한 한마당”의 전주포토페스티벌로 발전하기를 기대합니다. 아울러 행사를 도와주신 각 기관, 후원사 및 작가 여러분과 재능기부를 통해 물심양면 지원 해주신 위원 분들께 운영위원장으로서 감사의 마음을 전합니다.

Jeonju Photo Festival has become an image oriented and an photography based festival since 2008, and the festival enters the sixth this year.

Interest and curiosity about cultural arts that modern people have is no longer only for few people, but has become a main agent and a base for the festival. The public's interests is changing to a living and breathing place for participation. Therefore, I am confident that Jeonju Photo Festival has been a main festival in photography by weaving a link of communication and amalgamation. Especially, a noteworthy thing is that this year is the 60th anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War.

Many wars that took huge number of people's lives in the world seem to be settled, however, we should think about war which is looming beyond eyeshot such as conflicts between countries, religions, and ethnic groups. The main exhibition of the 6th Jeonju Photo Festival will tell fear and terror about war to post Korean War generation, and will show our responsibility and duty, and actualities of divided Korea. Furthermore, this will make realizing wound of war and sadness of humanity. I wish this festival was imprinted as another historical record by active participation of many artists who record pain and hope. Moreover, we prepared many things to see and to experience with plentiful and useful programmes and manuals in order to consider the public and to make the festival to photographic art & culture. I hope that Jeonju Photo Festival will become a huge festival where all of photographers and artists can radiate energy together in here, Jeonju. In addition, I would like to thank all of organizations, sponsors, artists, and the commissioners who donated their talent for the festival.
